Upon completion of the 2007-2008 evaluation process, the National Royal Rangers Ministries has chosen to temporarily suspend the sectional, district, and regional/national Ranger of the Year program. It will be suspended for a minimum of five years, allowing redirection of vital resources to other valuable ministry priorities. The National Royal Rangers Ministries recommends that Ranger of the Year continue at the local outpost level… The Montana District has decided to continue the District ROTY program.
| PURPOSE |
To challenge boys to advance in rank and leadership skills -- added benefit: chance to earn scholarship money for higher education

| GOALS |
1) To develop and train as many boys as possible to become ROTYs |
|
2) To help boys to achieve, grow, and become successful men of God
|
| RUN TIME |
Keep records for September through the following August
|
| AGES |
Discovery Ranger and above can go for District ROTY. Ranger Kids are now welcome to participate in District ROTY testing.
|
| QUALIFICATIONS |
Outpost level ROTY qualification points and advancements will be used to qualify for District level: |
|
1) Discovery Rangers: Gold Falcon & 500 points; |
|
2) Adventure Rangers: Bronze Medal & 500 points; |
|
3) Expedition Rangers: Adventurer or Bronze Medal & 700 points
|

There will be a $10 registration fee to cover costs for the district event |

DETAILS
Local Outpost ROTY To be selected by August 15 Be sure to honor at Council of Achievement then begin to prepare top boys for District ROTY
District ROTY To be held by mid-September - Bring boys’ work-books along with achievement forms - Boys scoring 75% or greater qualify for district Scholarship program (per est. formula) - Outstanding Level of Achievement (85% +) earns additional ribbon and qualifies Ranger to advance to Regional ROTY competition
Regional ROTY To be held by mid-November - Top 2 Adventure Rangers and top 2 Expedition Rangers from district, plus any additional boys who earned Outstanding Level of Achievement at district testing - Top Adventure Ranger will be Regional ROTY - Top Expedition Ranger will be National ROTY and qualifies to attend National Council to be held in March.
*REGIONAL & NATIONAL ROTY WILL BE SUSPENDED FOLLOWING THE COMPLETION OF 2007-2008 EVALUATION PROCESS

| Testing Boys will be tested against established National standards based on knowledge, skills, and achievement. Testing will cover the following: |
|
1) Uniform – Class A, per boys’ handbook |
|
2) Skills – tested on 6 of 10 red skill merits, his choice (written and hands-on) |
|
3) General Royal Ranger knowledge – based on handbooks, Bible and skill merits |
|
4) Oral interview |
|
5) Bible knowledge – oral and written |
|
6) Personal speech (Adventure and Expedition Rangers only) – 5 to 10 min. with visual aids |
|
7) Goal setting (non-scoring) |
|
|
WHAT TO DO
BOYS 1) Review information in the ROTY study guide (on website) 2) Put all work neatly in workbook for review 3) Read suggested chapters in handbook 4) Practice 5-10 min. speech and prepare visuals
COMMANDERS 1) Check out ROTY study guide (on website) 2) Copy and place achievement form (6 pages) in boys workbook and maintain good records, 3) Review with boys, 11th week or Saturday 4) Encourage/challenge boys to “go for it”
